• Amtrak says trains will resume service from Philadelphia and New York first thing this morning, while the NTSB investigation continues, focusing on whether a mark on the windshield was made by a hurled projectile — or even a bullet — before it derailed in Philadelphia last week.

• Many streets were nearly deserted in Waco, TX, apart from law enforcement officials keeping watch, as night fell following a shootout between rival motorcycle gangs at a restaurant that left nine bikers dead, injured 18 others, and raised the specter of further violence.

• Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who has said there is better than a 90 percent chance he will run for president, will give a “very important update” this morning about 2016, according to media reports yesterday.

• A US special forces raid in eastern Syria killed 32 members of the Islamic State jihadist group, including four leaders, a monitoring group said Sunday. President Barack Obama approved the special forces operation, a rare use of “boots on the ground” by the United States.
